Dunkerque 2010

Dunkerque 2010, the 6th European Sustainable Cities & Towns Conference, will take place in Dunkerque (France), 19-21 May 2010.

Organized by the Metropolitan Council of Dunkerque and the European Sustainable Cities & Towns (ESCT) Campaign, Dunkerque 2010 will explore how sustainable development can help local governments to face the current economic, social and climate challenges in the current context. This event is the next largest European conference to address climate change after Copenhagen 2009 (COP-15). It offers a unique opportunity to local governments to take positions on emissions reductions and innovative solutions.

The last conference, Sevilla 2007, attracted more than 1500 local government leaders from all over Europe as well as representatives from European and national networks of local governments, European institutions, international organisations, businesses, NGOs and researchers.

Jean-Marc Fleury, Executive Director of the World Federation of Science Journalists, will facilitate the key plenary on the opening day, Wednesday May 19, featuring Ms. Katherine Richardson, Chairperson of the Danish Commission on Climate Change Policy and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and Mr. Jeremy Rifkin, President of the Foundation on Economic Trends and bestselling author.
