Conference on Environmental News

The Kenyan Environment and Science Journalist Association (KENSJA), the Institute for Law and Environmental Governance (ILEG), Maseno University, and the Kenya Correspondents Association are organising an international conference on environmental news.

The meeting to be held in Nairobi, Feb 27th to March 2nd 2011, will examine the role of the media in sustainable development in Africa, identify capacity needs and challenges facing environmental journalism in Africa, and facilitate dialogue among policy makers, development practitioners, researchers and journalists on ways of promoting environmental journalism in the continent. It is sponsored by DANIDA and the Ford Foundation.

Among those to be in attendance are Diran Onifade, President of the African Federation of Science Journalists; Esther Nakkazi, science journalists from Uganda and a mentor with the World Federation Science Journalists’ SjCOOP project; Ochieng’ Ogodo, KENSJA chairman; Deodatus Mfugale of Tanzanian Journalists Environmental Association JET; and Benson Ochieng, Director of ILEG.
