Third World Conference of Science Journalists


Science journalists from around the world will gather for the first time in a South American country to discuss the current status, continuing concerns, and future trends in science and technology journalism and to suggest advances and improvements in this field that might lead to better applications on behalf of human development. To achieve this goal, The Third World Conference of Sciende Journalists "WCSJ Brazil 2002" will:
  • Bring together science journalists from all over the world to interact with each other and to share experiences in science jornalism as it is practiced in different countries and cultures;
  • Present lectures and discussions, as wwll as case studies and "best-practices" examples that can point out ways to improve science journalism on behalf of human development;
  • Promote the exchange of experiences and ideas between journalists, science communicators, communication researchers, and professors of journalism with businessmen, politicians, and representatives of those institutions concerned with science and technology public policy;
  • Discuss, analyze and propose ways and mechanisms that contribute to the training of young science journalists, especially in the developing countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia;
  • Develop a plan of action that might strengthen national and regional organizations of science and technology journalists and to widen representation of these national entities in truly global networks that support the advancement and protection of science journalists everywhere.
