SjCOOP ASIA'S 2ND MENTORS' TRAINING MEETING HELD IN TOKYO

March 20, 2014 posted in SjCOOP Asia
A total of 33 science journalists, editors-in-chief and national association representatives from Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Australia, Japan and Korea gathered in order to share best practices in science journalism in the region, and build a foundation for a national and regional professional network of science journalists in Asia.

A two-day field trip to the 2011 Tsunami-stricken Tohoku region was also instrumental in sharing the challenge and experience in covering a regional energy and disaster issue among the participants. In addition, editors-in-chief only sessions helped understand how editors-in-chief can apply the SjCOOP-participating reporter’s newly earned skills in science reporting to their newsroom.

As a follow up to this meeting, all SjCOOP participants will meet in Bogor, Indonesia, April 22-25, 2014. The Bogor meeting, the 2nd face-to-face meeting, will be followed by the 3rd face-to-face meeting to be held in Tokyo, September 8-12 this year.
