Science Reporter Internship

Publication: BioTechniques.com (Informa Healthcare)

Description: We are seeking a science reporter intern to develop and write stories for the news section of BioTechniques.com. This is a unique opportunity to participate in multimedia content creation from inception to publication. The proposed length of the internship is three (3) to six (6) months.
Payment: We will provide a stipend for meals and transportation expenses.
Location: 52 Vanderbilt Ave., New York, NY 10017.

Responsibilities:
  • Research and pitch stories for the news section of the website.
  • Gather information through tips, press releases, external contacts, and events.
  • Interview life science researchers and industry professionals.
  • Write articles for an audience of professional biomedical researchers.
  • Post and update content through the site's content management system.
  • Produce newsletters, podcasts, and video.
Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate should be enrolled in a science journalism MA program.
  • Excellent writing/editing skills. Detail-oriented, resourceful, and self-motivated.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Background in science, specifically biology, preferred.
  • Experience with HTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and CMS systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with audio and video production preferred.
