Summer Internship ICTP

Do you have a love for science, and a talent for writing? Do you enjoy interviewing researchers about their work, and then reporting on it in an engaging, clear style? Do you like to work with people from many different cultures, especially from the developing world?

If so, then ICTP has an outstanding internship opportunity for you!

ICTP is a world-renowned physics and mathematics research and training centre located in Trieste, Italy. Its in-house staff of world-class physicists and mathematicians perform research at the cutting edge of their fields. Concurrently, the Centre provides exceptional training and research opportunities at home and abroad to scientists from the developing world.

ICTP's Public Information Office is offering a summer internship for students with a science background and a flair for writing timely, interesting articles about the science and training activities at the Centre. With the Trieste campus as your "beat", you will take the initiative to interview scientists and students and contribute articles to ICTP's newsletter, website and other publications. By the end of the internship you will have an impressive portfolio of clips.

The internship can last up to 2 months. ICTP will provide housing, a small weekly stipend, and a travel grant.

Applicants must have a degree in science as well as formal training (preferably at the master's level) in communicating about science to non-specialists and the general public.

To apply, please email a cover letter (including proposed availability dates for the summer internship), your resume and three writing samples, along with the names and contact details of three referees who can attest to your writing capabilities, to pio@ictp.it.

Deadline is Friday 26 February 2010.
