EurekAlert! Announces Fellowships for Young Science Reporters in Latin America

EurekAlert!, the global science news service operated by AAAS, invites Latin American news organizations to nominate reporters for the 2013 AAAS-EurekAlert! Fellowships for International Science Reporters. The fellowships will cover travel, lodging and meal expenses for three reporters to attend the 2013 AAAS Annual Meeting.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote quality science reporting around the world. AAAS is the world's largest general scientific society and publisher of the journal Science. The AAAS Annual Meeting will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, from 14 February to 18 February, 2013. Winners will be invited to cover the AAAS Annual Meeting and post breaking-news coverage to the EurekAlert! website.

Submissions will be accepted from promising young science reporters (35 years of age or younger), working for Latin American news media outlets. A letter of nomination from an editor is required for consideration. The fellowships are open only to candidates who have not previously participated in this AAAS program.

To apply for this AAAS Fellowship program, please submit the following materials by the deadline of 15 September, 2012.
  1. A completed application form. Click here to download.
  2. A letter of nomination from an editor on official letterhead.
  3. At least one, and up to three science-related news stories, published or broadcast between 15 September, 2011 and 15 September, 2012.
  4. Documentation to show you are under 35 years of age.
  5. Proof that you are a working reporter, such as a business card.
  6. A cover letter indicating why you would benefit by attending and reporting on the 2013 AAAS Annual Meeting.
Print stories and transcripts may be submitted in other languages. AAAS will invite three independent, working professionals to review all submissions. Materials will be evaluated to determine the accuracy of scientific information, as well as the integrity of the news content of each story.

Submissions must reach AAAS no later than 15 September, 2012. Send materials to Jennifer Santisi at jsantisi@aaas.org (email) or 1-202-898-0391 (facsimile). Applicants are encouraged to send materials by email or facsimile.
